A 446 bolt is chosen when standard stainless fasteners cannot survive. It suits reformer skirts, kiln seals, brine headers, and incinerator hangers. Type 446 contains 23.00-27.00% chromium with very little nickel. This supports protective scaling in oxidising and sulphur-bearing gas environments.
