Torque is not a fixed number for a given size - it depends on thread diameter, pitch, and friction (lubricated vs dry).

Start From Proof Load

Target preload is usually 75–90% of the bolt's proof load, itself derived from yield strength and stress area.

Apply The Torque Formula

T = K × D × F, where K is the friction (nut factor), D is nominal diameter and F is target clamp load.

Confirm Your K-Factor

K typically runs 0.15–0.20 dry and can drop below 0.13 with a nickel-based anti-seize or moly lubricant.
